Well first off, don't forget the meeting this Wednesday. It's the usual time and place, 37 S. Ashland #10, 6:00. We have a few things to talk about, including the 2010 edition of the CCU New Rider Guide, and the snow letter that went out to building managers a couple weeks ago.
That being said, I have to apologize for the site not being updated much over the past couple of months. Although there are other people who contribute posts to this site, most come from one person. Sometimes life gets in the way, and it can be hard to keep up with things, especially when you are volunteering your time.
Which is another important point to understand. Nobody who is doing work for the CCU is being paid. Although there are dues to be a CCU member, the majority of this money goes to making sure that we have a reliable meeting space and to running the operations of the CCU. Although there are a few elected positions in the CCU, none of these people are compensated for their time monetarily. Everyone who helps out the CCU in any way, whether they are elected officials of the CCU, messengers who have signed cards and belong to the CCU, people outside of the CCU (lawyers and general advocacy people), or even just the messengers who come to a meeting to see what it is about, they all do it because they care about messengers and are tired of seeing the exploitation that goes on in the messenger industry. Personally, I am making a commitment right now and vowing to do as much as I am able to over the next year to improve the messenger industry in Chicago. If you are reading this, I would hope that you will do the same.
