Toronto Bike Messenger Killed by Former Ontario Attorny-General

I just found out about this crazy,tragic story. Darcy Allan Sheppard, a Toronto bike messenger was killed Monday night after getting into a traffic altercation with Ontario's former attorney-general Michael Bryant. Apparantly there was an accident between Bryants' car and Shepard, who was on a bike. Bryant ended up driving away from the scene at a high speed, going the wrong way ,with Sheppard clinging to the side of his car. They continued on this way for a couple of blocks, until Bryant drove his car onto the sidewalk sideswiping a pole, a mailbox, and possibly a fire-hydrant, knocking Sheppard off, running over him, and leaving him lying on the sidewalk, where he died.
This is a great loss for the messenger community. Last summer, Toronto hosted the Cycle Messenger World Championship. I was among several Chicago messengers who attended this event, and was impressed with the messenger scene in Toronto. They are a tight community, and a class act, and I am very sorry for the loss of one of their own.
There is obviously a lot more to the story, and I'm sure that more information will come out over the next few weeks. The bottom line is that two men got into an argument, one man died, and the other drove away in his car.
We will be discussing this tragic event at the CCU meeting tonight, and also contacting the Toronto Bicycle Messenger Association to see what we can do to help.
